Conor Oberst sings “First Day of My Life” with Jason Boesel on drums and Nate Walcott on keyboards and trumpet (song from “I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning” CD, Bright Eyes band, 2005) at Studio SP july 17, 2008 gig. Poster/flyer: oficial clip: Lyrics: “This is the first day of my life Swear I was born right in the doorway I went out in the rain Suddenly everything changed They’re spreadin’ blankets on the beach Yours is the first face that I saw Think I was blind before I met you I don’t know where I am I don’t know where I’ve been But I know where I want to go So I thought I’d let you know That these things take forever I especially am slow But I realized that I need you And I wondered if I could come home I remember the time you drove all night Just to meet me in the morning And I thought it was strange You said everything changed You felt as if you’d just woke up And you said, This is the first day of my life, Glad I didn’t die before I met you But now I don’t care I could go anywhere with you And I’d probably be happy. So if you wanna be with me With these things there’s no telling We’ll just have to wait and see But I’d rather be working for a paycheck Than waiting to win the lottery Besides maybe this time it’s different I mean I really think you’ll like me…”

  • He switched the lyrics up quite a bit for this performance.

  • I would like to hear this re-recorded with more percussion, electric guitar, and even a little but of synth’s thrown in….

@CaptainPrivate you’re just pissy because it’s creepy for you to be at good shows anymore

  • i bet he hates playing this song at shows. stupid hipster girls all singing along =l

  • não creio que perdi isso. vo me matar

  • Totally not true. Dylan went electric and the entire tour was people booing and throwing shit. They payed money to boo and throw shit.

Its the responsibility of the artist on stage to get everyone to shut up. If they can’t turn everyone on they aren’t doing their job.

  • this gave me awful goosebumps. this is wonderful.

  • You young dudes always do that at concerts! It is soooo rare to go to a concert where the audience doesn’t treat the musicians like a cd playing in the background. (Back when I was a dudester, we respected the music and were socialized in a concert. Our Woodstock and Atlanta Pop Festival were great events of togetherness….YOUR Woodstock was a drunken frat-riot. Music is dying and rap and hip-hop are surviving. Enjoy the sewer, dudes!

  • fuck that audience man, all talkin and flashin their cameras at him, ruined a good song

  • i meant thunderously cause on some vids i saw of him hes using a fast lound version wit the whole band remind me of dylan on the ROLLING THUNDER REVNUE.. but yea its pretty awesome.. especially this version

  • when I saw him in 07, he didn’t really play it “thunderously”, more like the studio but slower, it was great. but I totally agree.

  • Somebody should shoot that flash photographer. What a dope.

  • This has to have been one of the rare times Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band performed this song or any Bright Eyes related songs. When I saw them live it was only songs from the 2 albums that were already out. But the crowd probably would’ve erupted if Conor played this when I was there.

But it was essentially a Bright Eyes trio for this performance so I guess that might be why he played it.

  • When someone is performing, there should be nothing else that is more important, including conversation. STFU 😀

  • god i hope they play this on July 4th.. and i hope every just shuts the fuck and lets him sing!

  • It’s his song.. he can change the lyrics if he wants. I think it’s awesome.

  • i lie all the versions of this conor of course
the orignal in im wide awae
the the the thunderous countresque version on the cassadega tour
and the mystic valleys indie machine version in this one

  • wherever,
Conor will ALWAYS be a great
    artist AND person.
    fuck the haters.
    I ♥ you conor

  • seriously,
    ever since his change,
his songs sound A LOT more

  • the bright eyes version will always be better, im happy for success and that he finally seems happier.

  • hahaha I love it when artists to that at gigs
and everyone’s like singing along real loud and then the singer changes the lyrics and the crowd are all mumbling and pretending they know what to sing and it’s all a jumble

    This song’s great

  • he changes lyrics frequently while performing live!! It makes the songs even better!!

  • omg i just fell in love with this song again.
its nice to hear the song change as conor and his various accompanists change.

  • ha
he kinda messed up on lyrics
    still awesome

  • It’s not about Bright Eyes. It’s about Conor.
