4 Stages at Manville, RI – It was absolutely steaming today, good thing we had a great squad to get us rolling stage through the stages. John aka “9×21” was kind enough to let me use (or rather tease me with) his Bedell Custom Shorty Open gun. I’ve never shot any other open gun in a match before so I have to admit that I was a little nervous in the first stage. I did some really stupid mistakes, but I could really see the advantage of having one of these things in my cupboard. The dot barely moved and it took me a while to realize that I could actually shoot faster than my brain was used to. Also with the trigger, it was very light so (especially with the texas star) I was trying to creep the trigger to its breaking point (which I do with my Glock) before reaching the steel…but since the trigger was so light, I actually broke the shot before reaching the steel…I learned my lesson for the next stage. I wish there were more stages to shoot this gun…but alas, back to reality. It was a good trip, maybe I might consider getting one of these toys when I win the lottery…no super guns for poor grad students! This Friday I will be shooting my first steel match called “Walls of Steel”…didn’t I say I hated steel? Well, I’m a crazy crazy person…until then…
