What year did the first lottery start up? I was reading that Casanova was the first one to start up the national lottery. Not sure how true it is.

    Seriously, it’s been around so long nobody knows. Drawing lots is even mentioned in a particular sacred [to one religion] text about 2000 years old.

    In 1841 the Mexican Santa Ana had captured Texans from the Meier Expedition draw beans from a gourd to see who got executed [black beans] and who didn’t.

    Just depends on how loosely you want to define lottery.
