Top Lottery Systems Revealed and Reviewed
Part of a draft lottery aired by CBS news in 1969 for induction of 1970.
You’re going to Vietnam and you might get blown up… but FIRST a word from Norelco Santa who says don’t forget to buy your loved one one of our cordless shavers for Christmas before you’re off to battle. Happy Holidays! How tacky…
@hstryshows My dad was drafted into Vietnam. He didn’t choose to go there, so yes, people were chosen randomly. This is no joke.
i wish we had your thinking for WWII.lol
have fun living in mexico
I would be on my way to Mexico or Canada no government is going to make me fight their wars.
The original draft lottery from 1940 appeared at the beginning of Abbott and Costello’s “Buck Privates”.
I’d be hauling ass up north signing “Oh Canada” the whole way =]
@falldownhard the word ceremony doesn’t have any positive or negative connotations. It just means the ritual of the event, pretty much. to call it a ceremony is not to suggest its a good thing, its to suggest its a planned thing that requires a set of known behaviours to make it achievable
@hstryshows are you kidding me? this was not a joke and yes ppl WERE picked randomly…read a history book idiot.
I was in one of the last groups of draftees from 1972. Served from 1/5/73 – 7/3/75 (Extended 6 months for family medical benifets)
Fuck the draft. What a waste of human life.
Shit no Mayberry R.F.D
@MrRoboto81 “It’s going to happen.” Highly doubt it.
Disgusting commercials during this broadcast. Wow.
i would have been 144th pick aug 18
This is a joke. I guarantee people were not picked randomly.
Oh, wow. I would have been Drafted first.
Wow, I remember seeing this on TV when it happened. I didn’t know what it was all about. I was only 7 years old at the time, so I wasn’t eligible.
Yes, that is true. However, the coming wars with those countries will require more troops than the armed forces currently have available. The US has a total active duty force of less than 1.5 million, with approximately 1.4 million reserves. The Congress can ratify a return to conscription, get it signed by the president, and have the first draftees in boot camp within 6 months, most likely sooner. It’s going to happen.
Forced conscription in the United States ended after Vietnam.
That makes you top of the list for the wars with Iran, North Korea, China, and Pakistan that are coming up.
Doesn’t mean you’re any safer. War with Iran and North Korea are coming, and the maximum draft age is no longer 26, it’s 34. You’re still prime meat for the picking.
Shit! I thought this was about sports! Thank god I was born in ’82.
